The Porcupine

The Monkey's mate, the Porcupine Series, began after three years of finishing Monkeys and three years hiatus. I used the same process as with the Monkey Series, with over thirty prints to illustrate the seasons and many exotic lands. More than half are still in the process of hand finishing and will be completed by the end of 2011.

This Porcupine, in full self-defense mode, is symbolically a menacing protectionist and not merely a passive creature. The power of this feminine symbol is defensive not aggressive and shows tolerance of the peaceful dove. Against rich textures and/or patterns, the Porcupine too, is but one element of the natural splendor in the world. The timing for the creation of this series is symbolic as well in this age of heightened awareness and defending the home and/or land from foreign and/or domestic aggressors.
